Blackout curtains

Blackout curtains Dubai: made to measure for dark, cool rooms

The Fabric Room makes blackout curtains in Dubai to the exact size of your windows and fits them so light does not creep round the edges. We bring fabrics and linings to your home, plan the track position with you, and our team installs the finished curtains on a fixed date. Bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms and sunny living rooms are our most common jobs.

In shortBlackout curtains block close to all daylight using a coated blackout lining or a triple weave fabric, and they only work fully when the track is fitted wide and high enough to stop light at the edges. The Fabric Room makes blackout curtains in Dubai to measure, with a home visit, a written quote within 24 hours and professional fitting.

What makes a curtain truly blackout?

A curtain becomes blackout in one of two ways. Most of ours use a separate blackout lining, a fabric with a coated or bonded layer on the back that stops light passing through, sewn behind the face fabric you choose. The other route is a triple weave blackout fabric, where a dark yarn is woven into the middle of the cloth. Lining gives you the widest choice of face fabrics. Triple weave is softer and lighter, though it blocks slightly less.

The fabric is only half of it. Light escapes at the top above the track, at the sides past the window frame, at the centre where two curtains meet, and under the hem. A well made blackout curtain that is badly fitted still leaves a bright halo round the window. That is why we plan the fitting on the visit before we cut any fabric.

Lining can be sewn in or detachable. Sewn in lining gives the neatest drape and the crispest folds. Detachable lining hangs from the same hooks on its own tape, so the face curtain can be cleaned separately or a blackout layer added to curtains you already own. We recommend the option that suits the fabric and how you clean.

How we stop light leaking round blackout curtains in Dubai

Our fitting standard for blackout curtains in Dubai is built around the four places light escapes. At the top, we fix the track to the ceiling or as close to it as possible, or fit a pelmet or concealed recess so nothing shows above. At the sides, we extend the track 15 to 20 cm beyond the window frame on each side and can add returns that turn the curtain back to the wall. At the centre, overlap arms let the two leading edges cross. At the floor, curtains finish about 1 cm above the floor, or with a slight break onto it if you prefer.

Fullness matters too. We make pinch pleat and wave blackout curtains at 2 to 2.5 times the track width, so the curtain covers the glass completely even when the folds are deep. For tracks and fixing options, see our curtain tracks and installation page.

Blackout curtains for Dubai sun, heat and glass

Dubai daylight is strong from early morning, and in summer the sun rises before 6am. Blackout curtains help shift workers, babies and anyone who sleeps late. Lined and interlined curtains also cut heat gain through glass, so a west facing room stays cooler and the air conditioning works less hard.

Some Dubai specifics we plan for. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors onto a balcony or terrace need a track long enough to stack the curtains clear of the opening. Double height villa windows usually need a ceiling track and often motorized curtains. Pale or white blackout curtains are popular, but a white face fabric glows slightly when strong sun hits the back, so we show you samples against the light. For a full blackout with a lighter look by day, pair the curtains with a sheer curtain on a double track or with a blackout roller blind behind.

Blackout curtains price and how ordering works

As a market example, public prices seen on a Dubai competitor site in November 2026 started from AED 500 for pinch pleat blackout curtains at 2.5 x 3 m, and from AED 2,000 for motorized curtains at 2 x 3 m. Your price depends on window size, fabric, lining type, heading, track and any motor. Our curtain cost guide explains each factor.

We visit with the fabric and lining library, measure every window and agree the track position. You receive a written quote within 24 hours. A 50% deposit books a fixed fitting date. Our craftspeople make the curtains to order in Dubai to the written specification, including fullness, heading and pattern match. Every pair is inspected and photographed before delivery, and our team fits them and dresses the folds on the agreed day, covered by our workmanship guarantee.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Do blackout curtains make a room completely dark?

The fabric itself blocks close to all light. Whether the room is dark depends on fitting. Light leaks at the top, sides, centre and floor unless the track is fitted high and wide, with overlap at the centre. For the darkest result, combine blackout curtains with a blackout roller blind fitted inside the window recess.

What is the difference between blackout lining and blackout fabric?

Blackout lining is a coated fabric sewn behind any face fabric you choose, so the colour and texture are up to you. Triple weave blackout fabric has the blocking layer woven into the cloth itself, which feels softer and lighter but blocks slightly less light. We show both on the visit.

Do blackout curtains keep a room cooler in Dubai?

Yes, they reduce heat gain through the glass, especially when drawn during the hottest part of the day. Thermal interlining adds a further layer and gives the best result in west facing rooms. They will not replace air conditioning, but they help it work less hard.

Can you make blackout curtains for sliding glass doors?

Yes. We size the track so the curtains stack fully clear of the opening when drawn back, which keeps the doors usable. Wave headings on a ceiling track suit wide sliding doors well. For very wide spans, a motorized track saves walking the curtain across by hand.

Are white blackout curtains really blackout?

A white face with blackout lining still blocks the light, but in strong sun the face can glow slightly because light hits the lining and lifts the colour. Ivory, oatmeal and soft grey tones show this less. We hold samples up to your window on the visit so you can judge.

How long do made to measure blackout curtains take?

Lead time depends on the fabric and whether a motor or special track is involved. We write it on your quote, and once the 50% deposit is paid we book a fixed fitting date. Every pair is inspected and photographed before our team installs it.

Do you cover Abu Dhabi?
