In shortAn ottoman is an upholstered seat or footrest with no back or arms. The Fabric Room makes ottomans in Dubai to measure, including storage ottomans with hinged lids, ottoman benches for the end of a bed and soft poufs, matched in height and fabric to your existing furniture.

Which types of ottoman do we make?

Ottoman is a broad word. In Dubai searches it covers everything from a small foot stool to a long storage bench. We make all of the following to order, each on a frame or core specified for how it will be used.

Footstool ottoman and ottoman chair sets

A footstool ottoman sits in front of an armchair or sofa. When people search for an ottoman chair they usually mean an armchair with a matching footstool. We can make both as a set, or make a footstool to match a chair you already own.

Storage ottoman

A box frame with a hinged or lift off lid, upholstered on every face. It hides throws, toys or spare bedding and still works as a seat.

Ottoman bench

A longer seat, typically at the end of a bed, in a hallway or under a window. It can be plain, buttoned or built as a storage ottoman bench.

Cocktail ottoman

A large, low ottoman that replaces a coffee table. A firm top takes a tray, and the soft edges are kinder to children than glass or stone.

Pouf

A pouf has no rigid frame. It is a soft cube or drum filled with firm foam or a dense fibre and bead mix, light enough to move around the room.

Ottoman size guide: heights and sizes that work

The most common mistake with a bought ottoman is height. A footstool should sit level with, or slightly below, the seat of the chair it serves, otherwise legs tilt at an awkward angle. Standard sofa seats sit around 42 to 46 cm, so most footstools land between 38 and 45 cm. The figures below are starting points. We measure your furniture on the home visit and set the final sizes on your written specification.

How a Fabric Room storage ottoman and ottoman bench are built

A storage ottoman lives or dies by its lid. We fit hinges with lid stays so the top stays open while you reach in and closes gently, which matters in homes with children. The inside is lined so stored linen does not snag on raw timber. For a storage ottoman bench at the end of a bed we size the lid to clear the bed frame and the skirting when it opens.

Frames are made from seasoned timber and board, glued and screwed at the corners. Seat tops use high density foam, commonly 30 to 40 kg per cubic metre, so the surface holds its shape when someone sits on it daily. A layer of polyester fibre softens the edge and gives the fabric a crisp line.

Finishes include deep buttoning, piping along the edges, a tailored skirt, a plinth base, or turned or tapered legs in a timber finish of your choice. Castors are available for cocktail ottomans that need to move.

Fabrics and leather for ottomans in Dubai homes

Ottomans take shoes, feet, trays and children climbing on them, so we specify fabric with a Martindale rub test of at least 25,000 for heavy domestic use. Performance velvet, tight weave chenille, bouclé style textures, linen blends with a stain resistant finish and real or faux leather all work well. See our fabric guide for how each one wears.

Two Dubai points are worth planning for. Strong sun through tall villa windows fades many natural fibres, so a piece placed near glass benefits from a fade resistant weave. Cats and dogs pull loose loop weaves, so with pets we steer you towards flat, dense fabrics or leather. Matching the fabric to an existing sofa or headboard is one of the most common requests we get, and we bring samples so you can check the colour beside it.

Ordering an ottoman in Dubai, step by step

The process is the same as all our upholstery. We visit with the fabric library, measure the furniture the ottoman needs to work with, and agree type, size and finish. You receive a written quote within 24 hours, and a 50% deposit books a fixed delivery date.

Our craftspeople make the piece to order in Dubai to the written specification, covering frame, foam density, stitching and pattern match. We inspect and photograph it before delivery and bring it to your home on the agreed day. Every ottoman is covered by our workmanship guarantee. Price depends mainly on size, storage or solid construction, buttoning and fabric, and our pricing page explains how we quote.

Matching an ottoman to your sofa, bed or headboard

An ottoman looks best when it belongs to something. We often make one alongside a bespoke sofa, an upholstered headboard or a reupholstered armchair, so the fabric, piping and leg finish match. We can also recover an old ottoman whose frame is still sound.

For more on proportions, materials and styling, read our ottoman guide. To try fabrics on a matching armchair or headboard first, use the The Fabric Room Design Studio and send the design for a price. Ready to go further? Book a home visit or WhatsApp us on +971 50 551 1768.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much does an ottoman cost in Dubai?

It depends on size, whether it has storage, buttoning or piping, the legs or base, and the fabric or leather you choose. A small pouf and a 140 cm cocktail ottoman are very different jobs. We do not quote blind. We visit, agree the specification and send a written quote within 24 hours.

What is the difference between an ottoman and a pouf?

An ottoman has a rigid frame, usually timber, with foam and fabric on top and often legs or storage. A pouf has no frame. It is a soft, freestanding cube or drum, lighter and easy to move, used as a footrest or extra seat. We make both, and they can be made in matching fabrics.

Can you make a storage ottoman bench for the end of my bed?

Yes. We measure the bed width, the frame height and the space to the wall so the bench sits neatly and the lid clears everything when it opens. Typical height is 45 to 50 cm. The inside is lined and the lid is fitted with stays so it stays open safely.

Can you match an ottoman to my existing sofa?

Usually. Bring the sofa fabric details if you have them, or we will compare samples against it on the home visit. Where the original fabric is no longer available we suggest the closest match or a deliberate contrast. Height is matched to your sofa seat so the ottoman works as a footrest.

What fabric is best for an ottoman with children and pets?

Choose a tight, flat weave or a performance fabric with a stain resistant finish and a Martindale rating of 25,000 or more. Leather and good faux leather also wipe clean. Avoid loose loop and open textures if you have cats or dogs, as claws catch the loops.

How long does a made to order ottoman take?

Lead time depends on the design and on fabric availability, so we confirm it in writing on your quote. Once you pay the 50% deposit, we book a fixed delivery date and keep to it. Every piece is inspected and photographed before it leaves for your home.

Tell us about your piece. We will take it from there.
