Foam replacement

Sofa foam replacement Dubai: firm, supportive cushions again

Sofa foam replacement in Dubai brings sagging cushions back to shape without buying a new sofa. We measure every seat and back cushion at your home, specify the right density and wrap for how you sit, cut new inserts to size and refit them into your existing covers, or into new covers if the old ones have stretched.

In shortSofa foam replacement means removing worn cushion inserts and fitting new foam cut to the exact size of each cover. For seats, high density foam of around 30 to 40 kg per cubic metre is standard, usually wrapped in polyester fibre. The Fabric Room measures at your Dubai home, quotes in writing within 24 hours and refits on a fixed date.

When does a sofa need new foam?

Foam wears out long before most sofa frames do. The usual signs are easy to spot: seats that stay dented after you stand up, a dip where one person always sits, cushions that feel hard at the edges and hollow in the middle, covers that look loose and wrinkled, or fine yellow crumbs inside the zip. If the frame is solid and the springs or webbing still feel even, new foam is usually the right fix.

Our service covers the whole job. We remove the old inserts, cut new foam to the measured size of each cover, add the wrap you choose, and refit the cushions so the cover is filled tight to the corners. If a frame or spring problem shows up on the visit, we tell you and quote that separately through our sofa repair service.

Is it worth it? On a well built sofa, new foam usually costs a fraction of a replacement of similar quality and keeps a frame you already like. On a budget sofa with a weak frame, the money is often better spent elsewhere. We give you a straight answer on the visit, and our repair guide sets out how to judge it yourself.

Which sofa foam should you choose?

Foam is described by density and firmness, and they are not the same thing. Density is the weight of foam per cubic metre and mostly tells you how long it will last. Firmness is how hard it feels when you sit. Two foams of the same density can feel very different. The table shows the main options we use.

High density foam for sofa cushions: getting the feel right

For seat cushions we start with high density foam because cheaper low density grades soften within months under daily use. Then we tune the feel. A firmer core with a thick fibre wrap feels supportive but soft on top. A feather and fibre wrap gives the relaxed, slightly sunken look of a designer sofa but needs plumping. Back cushions are usually softer foam or a fibre fill so they give when you lean in.

On the home visit we bring foam samples so you can press and sit on them rather than guess from a number. Combustion modified foam with improved fire performance is available where you want it, for example in rental properties or homes with young children. The grade, density and wrap are written on your specification. Our sofa foam guide explains the options in more depth.

Cushion foam replacement beyond the sofa

The same service covers almost any upholstered cushion. Each insert is cut from a measured template, so angled corners, curved backs and notches around posts fit as tightly as a square seat. We regularly cut and wrap new foam for:

  • Armchair and dining chair seat pads, often alongside chair upholstery
  • Window seats and built in bench seats
  • Majlis floor bases and back cushions, see majlis seating
  • Ottoman tops and headboard padding
  • Outdoor and poolside cushions in reticulated quick dry foam, see outdoor cushions
  • Daybeds, sun loungers and boat cushions cut to a template

Why foam breaks down faster in Dubai, and how we plan for it

Polyurethane foam is damaged by ultraviolet light and heat. A sofa that sits in direct sun through tall villa glass, or one that lives on a covered terrace, ages faster than the same sofa in a shaded room. Foam near a window can yellow and crumble even inside its cover. Heavy family use, children jumping and pets on the seats add to the wear.

So we specify for the room. Sunny positions get a durable grade with a full wrap, and we suggest a blackout or sunscreen blind where the fabric itself is fading. Outdoor pieces get reticulated foam that drains and dries. If your covers have stretched or faded, new foam alone will not make them look new, so we can quote fresh sofa covers or full reupholstery at the same time.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How much does sofa foam replacement cost in Dubai?

Cost depends on how many cushions you have, their size and thickness, the foam grade and the wrap. A 3 seater with three seat and three back cushions is a different job from a large corner sofa. We measure at a home visit and give a written price per cushion within 24 hours, so you can choose seats only if you prefer.

What is the best foam density for a sofa seat?

For seats, high density foam of roughly 30 to 40 kg per cubic metre is a good standard for daily use. Higher density lasts longer but is not automatically firmer, as firmness is a separate rating. We let you sit on samples at home and choose the density and firmness that suit how you use the sofa.

Can you replace the foam and keep my existing covers?

Yes, if the covers are in good condition. We measure inside each cover and cut the foam to fill it properly. If covers have shrunk after washing or stretched with use, we adjust the cut or recommend new covers, because a poorly filled cover wrinkles even with new foam.

Do you replace back cushion foam as well as seats?

Yes. Back cushions usually take a softer grade of foam or a fibre fill so they give when you lean back. Some people replace only the seats, which take most of the wear. We check both on the visit and tell you honestly whether the backs need it.

What is a fibre wrap and do I need one?

A fibre wrap is a layer of polyester fibre around the foam core. It softens the top of the cushion, rounds the edges and helps the cover sit smoothly. Most sofa seat cushions benefit from one. A feather and fibre wrap gives an even softer, more relaxed look but needs regular plumping.

How long does new sofa foam last?

Life depends on density, how often the sofa is used, and exposure to sun and heat. Higher density foam lasts noticeably longer than budget grades. Keeping sofas out of direct sun and turning reversible cushions regularly both help. We record the grade on your specification so you know exactly what was fitted.

Can you cut foam to size for cushions I make myself?

Our service is made to measure foam fitted into covers as part of a Fabric Room job, including covers we make for you. If you have a project in mind, send the details on WhatsApp and we will advise whether it fits our work.

Tell us about your piece. We will take it from there.
