Which blinds suit which room?

Roller blinds in Dubai

Roller blinds are the most practical blind for Dubai homes. A single fabric panel rolls onto a tube at the top of the window, leaving the glass clear when raised.

Sunscreen roller blinds use an open weave that cuts glare and heat while keeping the view, which suits living rooms and offices facing the sun. Blackout roller blinds block light for bedrooms and media rooms. A dual setup, with a sunscreen and a blackout blind on one bracket, gives both in one window.

Blackout roller blinds

Blackout roller blinds use a coated or multi layer fabric that stops light passing through. In Dubai bedrooms, where summer sunrise is early and streetlights can be bright, they are the simplest way to get a dark room. For the best result, fit them outside the recess or with side channels.

Fabrics that handle Dubai sun

Roller blind fabrics are stiffened to roll cleanly, and the better ones hold their colour in strong sun. Pale backings reflect heat back through the glass, which helps west facing rooms. In bathrooms and kitchens, we use moisture resistant fabrics that wipe clean.

Roman blinds in Dubai

Roman blinds are made from curtain fabric, folding into neat horizontal pleats as they rise. They bring colour, pattern and softness to windows where curtains would crowd the room, such as above a desk, a bath or a window seat.

We line roman blinds as standard, with blackout lining where needed. Because they are made from the same fabrics as our curtains and cushions, you can match a roman blind to a headboard or scatter cushions in the same room.

There are three main fold styles. Flat folds are crisp and modern. Relaxed or hobbled folds have a softer, curved hem. Cascade folds keep layered pleats even when the blind is lowered. Each needs a slightly different amount of fabric, which we include in the quote.

Blinds and curtains together

Many Dubai rooms work best with both. A blind handles light and privacy. A curtain adds softness, frames the window and improves acoustics in rooms with hard floors and high ceilings.

Common pairings we fit:

• Blackout roller blind behind pinch pleat or wave curtains in bedrooms.
• Sunscreen roller blind with a sheer curtain in living rooms for glare control and softness.
• Roman blind on a small window with dress curtains on either side that do not close.
• Motorized blinds and curtains on one control in villas with tall or hard to reach glass.

Motorized blinds

Roller and roman blinds can both be motorized and controlled by remote, wall switch, schedule or smart home system. It is especially useful for high windows in double height rooms. See motorized blinds and curtains.

Inside or outside the recess?

Inside the recess looks neat but leaves small light gaps at each side. Outside the recess, overlapping the frame by around 5 to 10 cm, blocks more light and suits bedrooms. Our measuring guide explains both.

Child safety

Chains on manual blinds are fitted with tensioners or safety devices, and cordless or motorized options are available for children's rooms.

What do blinds cost in Dubai?

Price depends on window size, blind type, fabric, lining, fitting method and whether the blind is motorized. As market examples seen on a Dubai competitor site in November 2026: vertical blinds from AED 150, blackout roller blinds from AED 180, blackout roman blinds from AED 375, and motorized blinds from AED 950, each for a 1 x 1.5 m window.
