Curtain styles we make in Dubai

The heading, meaning the way the top of the curtain is pleated and hung, sets how a curtain looks and how much fabric it needs. Fullness is the ratio of fabric width to track width.

Not sure which suits your room?

Our guide to curtain types explains each heading, lining and fabric weight with examples from Dubai homes.

Blackout, sheer and layered curtains

Most Dubai homes need two things from curtains: privacy and light in the day, darkness and heat control at night. Layering a sheer with a blackout curtain on a double track does both.

  • Blackout curtains. Lined to block light for bedrooms, media rooms and west facing glass. Also helps keep afternoon heat out.
  • Sheer curtains. Soft, filtered daylight with privacy from neighbours and the street.
  • Dim out linings. Reduce light without full blackout, for living rooms.
  • Thermal and interlined curtains. Extra body and better insulation against heat.
  • Double tracks. Sheer at the back, blackout or main curtain at the front, each drawn separately.

Living room curtains

Living rooms usually suit a sheer for daytime with a lined main curtain for evening and privacy. Wave headings on a ceiling track give a clean, modern line across wide glass. For open plan rooms, we often run one continuous track across several windows so the room reads as one.

Bedroom curtains

Bedrooms need darkness for sleep, especially in summer when the sun rises before 6am. A blackout lining, a track that returns to the wall and curtains that overlap at the centre stop light leaking around the edges.

Majlis and formal rooms

Majlis rooms often call for fuller, heavier curtains with pinch pleats and pelmets, and full privacy from outside. We plan fullness and weight to suit tall windows and long runs of glass.

Curtain tracks, poles and motorized curtains

The track matters as much as the fabric. A good track runs smoothly for years, takes the weight of long blackout curtains and sits neatly in the ceiling or a recessed pelmet. We supply and fit curtain tracks for ceiling, wall and recess fixing, including bent tracks for bay windows.

For tall villa windows, wide sliding doors and rooms where curtains open and close every day, motorized curtains are often worth it. They can run on a remote, wall switch, schedule or smart home system. We fit motor and track together so the system is matched to the weight and width of the curtains.

Curtain fabrics for Dubai sun, dust and humidity

Dubai light is strong. Fabrics near south and west facing glass fade faster than anywhere else in the house, so we choose fabric and lining with that in mind.

  • Linen and linen look. Relaxed texture, popular for sheers and living rooms.
  • Velvet. Heavy drape, good acoustic softening, needs a strong track.
  • Polyester blends and voiles. Stable in humidity and easy to clean.
  • Linings. Protect the face fabric from sun, add body and improve blackout.
  • Dust. Smoother weaves shed dust more easily, which helps in villas near open land.

Rooms with double height windows

Curtains with a drop of 5 metres or more need heavier tracks, careful weighting and fabric that does not stretch over time. We plan these on site and confirm every measurement in writing.

Measuring yourself?

Our measuring guide shows how to measure width and drop. For a final order we always take our own measurements, so the fit is our responsibility.

How much do made to measure curtains cost in Dubai?

Price depends on window width and drop, fabric choice, heading and fullness, lining, track type and whether the curtains are motorized. A double height window can need several times the fabric of a bedroom window.

As market examples seen on a Dubai competitor site in November 2026, pinch pleat blackout curtains were listed from AED 500 for 2.5 x 3 m, and motorized curtains from AED 2,000 for 2 x 3 m. These are starting points only. We quote every window in writing after a home visit. See our curtain cost guide and pricing page.

Why choose The Fabric Room for curtains in Dubai

One team measures, makes and fits, so there is no gap between the person who measured and the person who fits. Curtains are made to a written specification that covers fabric, lining, heading, fullness and hem, and every pair is checked before delivery.

Prefer a flatter look? We also make blinds, including roller and roman blinds that pair well with curtains. Start in the The Fabric Room Design Studio or book a home visit. WhatsApp +971 50 551 1768 or email hello@fabricroom.ae, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How long do made to measure curtains take in Dubai?

Most made to measure curtains are fitted within two to three weeks of the deposit, depending on fabric availability and the number of windows. Motorized systems and very tall windows can take longer. Your written quote states the timeline, and the 50% deposit books a fixed fitting date.

How much fabric do curtains need?

It depends on the heading. Pinch pleat and wave curtains need 2 to 2.5 times the track width in fabric. Eyelet curtains need 1.5 to 2 times. Patterned fabrics need extra to match the repeat across widths. We calculate the exact metreage after measuring so you never pay for more than needed.

Do you install curtain tracks as well?

Yes. We supply and fit ceiling, wall and recess tracks, double tracks for layered sheers and blackout, bent tracks for bays and motorized tracks. Fitting is done by our team on the same visit as the curtains where possible, so the room is finished in one go.

Should curtains touch the floor?

For a clean, tailored look, curtains should finish about 1 cm above the floor so they hang straight and do not collect dust. A slight break of 2 to 5 cm on the floor gives a softer look. A full puddle suits formal rooms but gathers sand, which matters in Dubai villas.

Can I see curtain fabrics before I order?

Yes. We bring a fabric library to your home on the home visit, so you can see each fabric against your walls and in your own light, which changes a great deal in Dubai through the day. You can also explore colours in The Fabric Room Design Studio before booking.

Are blackout curtains good for Dubai heat?

Yes. Blackout and thermal linings help block direct sun and reduce heat through glass, which eases the load on air conditioning in west facing rooms. They also protect floors and furniture from fading. For full darkness, the track and fitting method matter as much as the lining.

Do you make curtains for rentals and holiday homes?

Yes. We make durable, easy care curtains for furnished rentals and holiday homes, often with blackout linings for bedrooms and sheers for living areas. We can measure several units in one visit and quote each one separately, so landlords and operators see costs clearly.

What is the difference between curtains and drapes?

In Dubai the words are used almost interchangeably. Drapes often means heavier, lined, full length curtains, while curtains can mean any fabric window treatment. What matters is the fabric, lining, heading and fullness, which we agree with you in writing before anything is made.

Tell us about your piece. We will take it from there.
