A sofa is worth reupholstering when the frame is solid hardwood or good quality plywood, the size and shape still suit your room, and you would rather spend on build quality than replace it. Older sofas often have better frames than many sold new today.

Sofa upholstery fabrics and finishes

Choosing the fabric is the part most people enjoy and the part that decides how long the result lasts. We bring a fabric library to your home so you see colour in your own light.

• Velvet and performance velvet. Rich colour, hard wearing, easy to brush clean. Check sun exposure, as pile can fade on a west facing window.
• Linen and linen blends. Relaxed and cool to sit on. Best as a blend for strength, and in lighter rooms with less heavy use.
• Bouclé and textured weaves. Soft and sculptural, though looped yarns can catch on pet claws.
• Performance weaves. Stain resistant finishes for families, rentals and majlis rooms.
• Leather. Full grain or top grain leather ages well. We avoid bonded leather, which tends to peel in Dubai heat.
• Finishing details. Piping, contrast welts, buttoning, skirts or exposed legs can all change at reupholstery.

Patterned fabrics with a large repeat need more metres to match properly. Details such as piping, buttoning and loose cushions add labour.
